So what do you do when you have a domain name that you've been blogging on for a year and you neglected to renew the domain and it expired by accident? We'll you're sort of screwed.

What happened to a client is not that uncommon. As an SEO specialist and all around web dude I often get clients and other people requesting help and advice. While I would love to help everyone I just can't do it all. So I have to teach my clients to help themselves.

This often means I don't register web sites for them, or hold their hand when it comes time to renew. I tell them to turn on automatic renewal but sometimes people forget, and it sucks.

A client of mine had a domain they've been blogging on for about a year. They followed all my directions. Set up all the Google tools (webmaster tools, analytics, feedburner, all the blogger tools, you name it). They were kicking ass and takin' names. The blog was getting popular and driving traffic to their site and making thier phone ring.

Then all of a sudden I get a call.. hey we think someone hijacked our blog? I'm like, what do you mean? sure enough, I visit the URL and it's not their blog. How could this be? I check blogger set up and it says DNS incomplete? How, I didn't change it, my client didn't change it?

A quick whois.com search reveals that the domain is owned by someone else? I ask my client, did you have autorenew turned on for the domain thru the registrar? Unknown answer.. bummer... Someone jumped on the expired domain listing. But how, the registrar sends out email reminders and you still have 30 days to reclaim it.. Oh.. you registered it with an email address you don't check that often.. ouch. big mistake.

Well, live and learn. Try to contact company that got it, offer them $500 or $1,000 to sell it back. What, they didn't return your calls.. crap.. we'll have to start all over again.. wow, tough lesson.

So, if you haven't gathered, the company specializes in luxury Airport Transportation. They offer both luxury transportation to airports and transportation from airport.

Do me a favor and check out their new blog, leave some comments, tweet about their new site and if you travel a lot, give them a shot. They are great folks, have an honestly great service and you won't be disappointed you tried them.

May you find peace and happiness in your life.
